Subject: Icom IC-V8  / T3H   expanded RF

Receive and Transmit Expansion Mod 136  -  174  Mhz   (Not all versions will get full range)

This modification was very easy to do. For me, I only de-soldered half the diode and left it sticking up.

1 Remove battery and antenna.
2 Remove screws and open radio.
3 Locate microprocessor board.
4 Remove D47 and D46.
5 Remove D45 to enable the Voice Scrambler and R349 for ANI.
6 Reassemble the radio.
7 Reset the microprocessor (if needed).

Dwight  WA7DS  found two things that might be helpful to others doing the modification:

My eyes are 72 years old and I needed a hi-intensity light source and a magnifying glass to see the diode D48.

2  I found I could make a tool from a steel tube I had from an old folding chair. I filed two tits in the end of the tube
to match the two slots in the antenna nut. The tube is just the right inside diameter to fit over the antenna BNC
connector and engage the slots in the nut..

However when the diode was removed and the unit assembled, I turned it on but it would not transmit on any
frequency!!! The solution was to turn it off and press MONI and Fun-c-A together for 3 seconds.
Then when I turned it back on it works great.
